INTRODUCTION TO AI

Introduction to AI

Whether you’re a tech-savvy person or a non-techie one, you would have definitely come across the term Artificial Intelligence in recent times. Artificial Intelligence is one of the rapidly emerging technologies deployed in almost every industry for maximum favorable outputs. When you hear the term Artificial intelligence, you might associate it with robots or those typical sci-fi movies depicting the rise of AI technology. But in reality, AI is present everywhere around you these days. Whether you interact with a smart-assistant like Siri/Alexa, or commute in a self-driven car, refer to Google or Apple maps, use a smartphone, get targeted by personalized ads on social media, you are using the applications of AI in your daily life.

If you’re someone still wondering what Artificial Intelligence is and how it can be beneficial for your business, continue reading below. We share the nitty-gritty of this new-age technology while also digging deep into the benefits of artificial intelligence.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

Artificial Intelligence is a technology that replicates human intelligence in a machine. If a machine can learn, think and execute just as a human brain would do, in short, the intelligence that is exhibited by a machine is known as artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence helps a machine or system in thinking, rationalizing, learning, reasoning, problem-solving, planning, decision-making and language processing. Hence, when a machine can take decisions and perform tasks on its own, it is called an intelligent machine.

AI systems are powered by powerful algorithms, via techniques like Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Neural Networks. Based on the techniques used and operations performed, there are three types of AI systems ranging from simple to complex applications. Few people think that robots are the only application of AI, but that isn’t the complete truth. AI is today present in everyday things that you make use of, as mentioned above.

TYPES OF AI
There are generally three broad categories of Artificial Intelligence-based on their application.

  1. Artificial Narrow Intelligence(ANI)

These AI systems have narrow capabilities and are programmed to perform a single task, but they perform that task quite efficiently. Narrow AI systems’ intelligence is attributed to Natural Language Processing, using which human language is interpreted to provide personalised experiences to users. These systems are mostly found in today’s world and used in our day-to-day activities. ANI is used to perform repetitive tasks or facial/voice/speech recognition or drive a car or predict the weather. Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant fall into this category.

  2. Artificial General Intelligence(AGI)

It is an advanced second stage of AI where intelligence is on par with human intelligence. An AGI system requires thousands of ANI systems working in synchronization to simulate human reasoning and thinking. These systems think, act and take decisions similar to that of humans. Though scientists have not yet achieved a satisfactory result in the implementation of AGI, the recent developments in technology can make it possible shortly.

  3. Artificial Super Intelligence(ASI)

These systems surpass the capability of human thinking and reasoning. Machines become self-aware and outperform humans in every activity, be it sports, math, science, medicine, arts, etc. They have greater memory and analyze the data quickly. Once we achieve the full potential of AGI, ASI would not be far.

DAY-TO-DAY APPLICATIONS OF AI IN OUR LIVES

  1. SMART HOMES

With the exponential growth of technology, homes have become smart too. The devices and appliances at home are getting interlinked using IoT (Internet of Things). With the implementation of Artificial Intelligence, electronic appliances and devices record user behaviour over-time and automate the processes. You can control your home and the devices remotely, like opening the door, locking the door, controlling the temperature, handling various appliances, etc. All this is possible with the use of AI technology.

  2. DIGITAL SMART ASSISTANTS

Alexa and Siri have become a common name in every household these days. These AI-powered assistants built-in smartphones and smart-speakers understand the user commands using Natural Language Processing technique and perform the instructed tasks. Right from making calls to handling the appliances at home to hearing music, these assistants obey every order of yours.

  3. CHATBOTS

Maximum of the websites that you visit these days have a pop-up text message, initiating the conversation. These messages are sent by the chatbot to understand the consumer needs and to make every visitor feel his/her importance. As these chatbots initiate the conversation, they understand the visitor’s requirements and also provides appropriate solutions. It saves visitors’ time while freeing the human resources of the brand to focus on core objectives.

  4. PERSONALIZED SHOPPING

One of the biggest assets for every brand is to provide a personalized experience to every user. The consumer feels special when they get targeted with personalized messages or products, and AI-powered algorithms are of great aid for brands in doing so. These AI systems keep track of users’ search history; their shopping pattern; the products they have scrolled on, wish-listed or shared on some other website; and then combines all the data to show a personalized list of products inspired by the users’ search pattern. For example, if you have purchased a particular smartphone, you’ll be targeted with ads of the compatible headset, phone cover, etc. It happens because the AI-systems clearly understand that there are more chances for you to buy these products rather than buying products like refrigerator or oven.

  5. MARKETING

Marketing has one of the hottest growing industries over the years. After all, only with efficient marketing you can sell out your product and make profits. These days a product without marketing is like a smartphone without an internet connection. As digital marketing kept scaling, artificial intelligence embedded into it to render the curve an exponential growth. Remember when you search for a particular product on a particular website and then find an advertisement for that product every time you are using a search engine or Internet powered applications. It is an application of AI in marketing.

  6. OTT PLATFORM – NETFLIX

Netflix uses AI to understand user’s choices based on the shows and movies he/she has watched or searched, it also analyses the genre that a user is interested in and considers various other factors to recommend the shows/movies that the user is most likely to watch. This is the reason that whenever you open Netflix, you find your favourite shows or shows you would love to watch on top. These personalized experiences have boosted Netflix’s subscription rates in recent times.

Along with the above-mentioned applications, there are various other industries where AI is playing a crucial role, for it may be the smart-cars in the automotive industry, diagnosis of cancer in the healthcare sector, AI in the search engine, banking sector, etc.

AI is both the current and future technology making our lives better. Though there are misconceptions that the implementation of AI would impact human’s lives in both positive and negative ways, let’s focus on the positive impacts it would bring. We at EntitledArts implement Artificial Intelligence-based applications to enhance the business of our clientele.
